Meet Pastor, Prophet T. J and Lady Verdell
Pastor, Prophet Tommie Verdell Sr.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Prophet Tommie J. Verdell was born August 4, 1952 in Columbus, MS. He is the second eldest child of twelve. He became a leader at an early age. His courageous and charismatic spirit of leadership has captured the heart of many.
At the age of 21, Prophet Tommie J. Verdell met his “good thing”, Mattie R. Gavin. The two later wedded in holy matrimony, December 23, 1973.
In 1979, at the age of 27, Prophet Verdell was called into ministry and preached his first sermon at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Pastor C. S. Hale. Prophet Verdell, at that point, began his ministry as an evangelist and a singer, sharing the Gospel throughout the nation.
In 1986, He became the pastor of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church. With his strong desire for holiness, Prophet Tommie J. Verdell was inspired by God to transition the church to another location in 1997. During the transition, the church name was changed to St. John Full Gospel Baptist Church. Prophet Verdell and St. John Full Gospel Church operates independently. Prophet Tommie Verdell has served as the presiding overseer of his congregation for 28 years. He have many elders and associate ministers active under his leadership.
Prophet Tommie J. Verdell holds firm to Ephesians 3:20, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” His vision is clear with one central principle; to build and develop a kingdom of empowered people for God. Prophet Tommie J. Verdell often states, “I was born to triumph against the devil.”
Prophet Verdell is an outstanding teacher of the Word of God, teaching with clarity and understanding. He demonstrates the love of God to all mankind, providing spiritual care to all.
Prophet Verdell completed his advance theological training with the World Harvest Bible College, in Columbus, Ohio.
He is the father of five daughters, three sons with nineteen grandchildren. He enjoys teaching, prophesying God’s Word, and spending time with his family and congregation. He also enjoys hunting and singing.
The Bible says “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” Mark 16:15
Prophet Verdell broadcasts weekly on WAJV Joy 98.9 FM, Thursday at 10:00 P.M. and on WTWG 1050 AM, Tuesday at 5:00 P.M. in the Golden Triangle area.
Lady Mattie Verdell

Lady Mattie R. Verdell was born on July 12, 1952 in Macon, MS. She’s the eldest of two siblings and is married to the Prophet Tommie J. Verdell. Together, they share eight wonderful children and nineteen grandchildren.
Since her husband began pastoring at the St. John Full Gospel Baptist Church, she has worked faithfully beside him in the ministry, teaching the word of God in Sunday school, facilitating Bible Study and serving loyally as the president of the usher board.
In 2002, Lady Mattie Verdell was appointed as the St. John Full Gospel Baptist Church’s Administrator.
Lady Verdell serves as a great mentor to all the women in the church, demonstrating the traits of a virtuous woman with integrity and encouraging them in love, helping women to develop self-esteem and self-respect.
Lady Mattie Verdell wears a welcoming smile and possesses a uplifting personality. Her desire is to see everyone reach their full potential in life. She enjoys cooking, reading her bible, and spending time with her husband and family. One of her favorite scripture is “This is the day which the Lord has made; and I will rejoice and be glad in it”. Psalm 118:24
